Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor Confirmed for August 26 in Las Vegas

The long expected deal has been agreed and the finest boxer of this era Floyd Mayweather will face off against arguable number one pound for pound UFC fighter Conor McGregor on August 26th in Las Vegas, with the venue to be announced.  With this fight, Mayweather has the opportunity to break the long standing record of Rocky Marciano and move his record to an unblemished 50-0.
Mayweather announced the fight via Instagram whilst McGregor took the opportunity to throw another jibe at Floyd, using an image of Floyd Mayweather Sr. when announcing the fight. This will of course be McGregor’s first professional boxing match with only a select few McGregor fans giving him any kind of chance of mixing it with the best in the ring. Floyd is widely expected to win with ease and potentially end the bout when he sees fit. The obvious power of McGregor will be unlikely to trouble Mayweather in his domain.
Both have made comments towards one another such as Floyd saying if you look in the Guinness Book of World Records, you can look at Floyd’s numbers but if you look for McGregor ‘you won’t see shit.’ Both are known for having the gift of the gab and the build up to this fight is likely to be very entertaining. It will be interesting to see the undercard for this fight with the likes of Gervonta Davis and Badou Jack possibly featuring.

Although this fight is unlikely to be competitive, one thing is for sure, the world will be watching and McGregor will be leaving with the largest purse of his life. With this purse, will it lead McGregor to consider retirement from MMA given he will certainly be financially secure? Even if this fight doesn’t appeal to most boxing fans, the build-up will be sure to sell it.
