10 fights that nobody wants to see

Boxing can be one of the most frustrating sports. Sometimes we get fights that no one is interested in, the fights we want to see do not happen for extended periods of time, or they do not happen at all.

Mayweather-Pacquiao, for example, was one of boxing’s most anticipated fights for over half a decade, only to be a dull affair when the two finally met on May 2 of this year.

Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions series has been a hit or miss. For you Chicago Cubs fans out there, it was the difference between a mammoth Sammy Sosa home run and a giant strikeout.

With that, we present to you the fights we do not want to see.

1. Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao II
– Floyd won the first fight, and everyone knows it. Sorry Pacquiao fans. It was a close fight in terms of action. However, Pacquiao had very few rounds where it was a “clear” victory. Every round that Floyd won, there was no denying who won. We all knew Pacquiao had to win rounds clearly to impress the judges; he didn’t, and the scandals afterward further damaged the sport.

2. Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan
– Blowout

3. Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal II
– We know for a fact that Kovalev did not want this fight, but he did not have much of a choice. Main Events CEO and Kovalev promoter Kathy Duva backed out of a WBC-sanctioned purse bid in April which derailed the chances of an Adonis Stevenson clash, and fellow countryman Artur Beterbiev rejected a fight to pursue an IBF eliminator. Beterbiev is now out of the rest of the year as he needs surgery on an injured shoulder. Pascal will be going to sleep this time around.

4. Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux II
– Lemieux said at the post-fight news conference that he expected to fight Golovkin again in the near future. Do not get your hopes up. While Lemieux is a fine puncher, he could not figure out GGG’s stiff left jab, nor his movement.
– Golovkin outboxed him beautifully on Saturday. Now he knows what Lemieux has. In a rematch, Golovkin goes for the kill and knocks him out early.

5. Adrien Broner vs. Ashley Theophane
– For a fighter with the talent of Broner, there is absolutely no reason he should be fighting a guy that is not ranked in the top 15. It’s inexcusable. Jose Benavidez, the interim WBA super lightweight champion, deserves a shot at the title.
– Although he beat Herrera via controversial decision, he proved that he is willing to travel to get a belt.
– Broner will win easily as long as he trains the way he did for Allakhverdiev; he looked impressive, and quick.

6. Jermell Charlo vs. Joachim Alcine
– This is a joke of a fight. Charlo has talent without a doubt. It is time for him to fight better opponents.
– Alcine has lost three of his last five and seven of his last 14, including four by knockout. Charlo will not prove anything by beating this guy.

7. Erislandy Lara vs. Jan Zaveck
– “Yawn vs. Jan.”

8. Hassan N’Dam vs. Sam Soliman
– *Crickets*

9. Devon Alexander vs. anyone
– A year out of the ring really showed against Aron Martinez.

10. Antonio Margarito vs. anyone
– No. Just no.

What fights would you like to add to this list? Let us know!
