Adrien Broner promoted to Super champion

Adrien Broner is officially a Super champion.

On October 3, at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, Broner stopped Khabib Allakhverdiev in front of his hometown fans to claim the then-vacant WBA super lightweight title.

After considering the career achievements of Broner, the WBA Championships Committee in compliance with WBA Rule C. 18 promoted Broner to the status of Super Champion.

“The appointment of Broner as Super Champion will not unduly burden the other ranked contenders and will permit activity in the division,” said President of the WBA Gilberto Mendoza. “Pursuant to Broner being named Super champion, interim champion Jose Benavidez [Jr.] shall face Michelle Di Rocco, currently ranked No. 3 by the WBA, for the title now vacant due to Broner’s Super champion status.”

Broner will be mandated to fight the winner within an 18-month period. If the fight ends in a draw, Broner will still have to face Benavidez on or before May 2025.
