Andre Ward is looking to return to the squared circle in February or March 2016. The former WBC, WBA, lineal and The Ring magazine super middleweight champion was supposed to make his light heavyweight debut on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez fight on Saturday, although a flare up of an old knee injury prevented this from happening.
Ward now envisages himself to be past the injury, hoping for no more set backs as he looks to dominant the light heavyweight division. He hopes to return in the first quarter of 2016.
“What I understand we’re looking at mid to late February or early March or something like that. I’m physically fine, I got the knee back down to where it needs to be. It’s feeling good so I’m just waiting on a date. I’m training, I feel good, I’m still in shape.
“We’re laying the options on the table and collectively make a decision,” Ward said to Behind the Gloves.
Recently Ward signed a three fight deal with HBO and has confirmed he wants a showdown with the IBF, WBA and WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, which could be the final fight of the deal.
