Sorry, fans. Manny Pacquiao-Amir Khan is not a done deal.
Shah Khan, father and mentor of Amir Khan, claimed on Tuesday via UK’s Daily Mail that his son had reached a deal to fight Manny Pacquiao in April and that the contract was sent by his lawyers to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank.
Arum, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, was laughing when he heard the report.
“What are they talking about?” Arum questioned.
While on the phone with Rafael, Arum received a phone call from WBO super lightweight champion Terence Crawford’s manager, Cameron Dunkin, who apparently had read/heard about the deal.
“It’s not fuc—- true,” Arum screamed at Dunkin.
After Arum had hung up with Dunkin, he asserted that until Pacquiao decides who he wants to fight, there will be no deal reached with anyone.
“It’s such bull—-!” Arum exclaimed.
According to Arum, the top candidates to fight the Filipino are Crawford & Khan. When Pacquiao makes a decision, Top Rank will send a contract accordingly.
“Top Rank will send a contract to one when Manny makes his decision.”
But in other news, Arum announced that he had reached an agreement to a contract extension with another Filipino superstar, former five-division world champion Nonito Donaire.
Donaire will return to the ring on December 11 on truTV against an opponent to be determined.
The Daily Mail report came on the same day as Khan spoke with The Times of India where he stated that he would prefer to fight Pacquiao on April 9, but never mentioned anything about an agreement being reached.
