Broner hits out at Arum, blames Top Rank rejection as catalyst for Pacquiao snub

Adrien Broner has spoken out against Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum for not negotiating a possible bout against Manny Pacquiao. It stems from a former dispute between the pair.

The WBA super lightweight champion took to twitter to vent his frustration although stated that he was happy to face Britain’s Ashley Theophane at the beginning of March.

Broner firstly took to Instagram, stating he will be ready if Pacquiao wanted to face him. If not, he would prepare for Theophane for an early March date:

Then Broner took to Twitter stating Arum’s reasoning behind not making the fight with him – saying his rejection to Arum’s Top Rank was the reason why he would not be considered for a fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Arum recently spoke to BoxingScene, expressing his surprise at Pacquiao’s advisor, Michael Koncz, for reaching out to Broner as a possible opponent.

Arum stated that Broner’s entertainment value was the reason why Koncz touted him.

“I was very surprised. But you know, Mike is trying to figure out the best thing for Manny and he’s not as conversant in the pay-per-view like we are,” said Arum to BoxingScene.com

“We talk to all the distributors, to HBO and we figure out who is the best draw. We don’t do this by the seat of our pants. But his idea was, ‘Well, the kid has a big mouth,’ but that doesn’t sell pay-per-views.”

Now it seems Arum has stuck with the original three potential fighters in Terence Crawford, Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan, with a decision to be made very soon.

“We had a real nice meeting with Michael and he understands. So we’re going with the original group and we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Broner will now likely face TMT’s Ashley Theophane. Earlier this month, Floyd Mayweather told the Guardian that Theophane will be facing Broner at the end of January in Atlanta although now it seems a possible bout could be set for early March.
