WBA Super Lightweight champion Adrien Broner needs no introduction. The brash trash-talking fighter is currently preparing for his first defence of the world title against Ashley Theophane on April 1 but took time out to post a video responding to Floyd Mayweather regarding a money throwing video that was made viral amongst the boxing public last week.
The video shows Broner receiving change from a Walmart cashier, only for Broner to throw the change in the air, murmuring “Why are you giving me change back? You don’t know who I am?”.
Floyd Mayweather discussed the incident to FightHype and when asked about it, he responded: “I think fighters hurt themselves sometimes. Someone showed me the clip of Adrien Broner the other day. He was in Walmart and what was so crazy about the video when I looked at it, it kind of hurt my feelings.
“The person gave him his change back, I guess he had bought something and he threw the money or the change up in the air like, “Why are you giving me change back? You don’t know who I am?” Actually, a lot of people in the store didn’t know who he was. They was looking like, “Who are you?” And then, it’s so crazy, if you’re at such a high status and you reached a certain level, you’re supposed to have people going to Walmart for you. You go to places like Walmart to save money,” Floyd said.
Broner responded Mayweather, indicating that he felt betrayed by Mayweather with the thought that Mayweather was his friend – or his ‘Big Bro’, as he often refers to him. He felt that Mayweather did not need to go through the media route, and a personal text message would have sufficed.
Broner also referred to the incident in 2011, where a video captured Floyd Mayweather burning money a $100 bill in a nightclub in Atlanta.
