Campbell headlines in Hull on Feb. 22
Luke Campbell will face the first test of his career as he faces Scott Moises on Feb. 22 at the Hull Ice Arena, UK live on Sky Sports HD. Campbell won gold for Team GB at the 2012 Olympic games has won all four of his professional contests since making his debut back in July last year. Moises brings a record of 8-8-1 to the ring and is a former BBBofC Southern Area title challenger.
Also in action of the night is Tommy Coyle (17-2, 7 KOs) who defends his IBF International lightweight title against the Argentine, Daniel Eduardo Brizuela. Coyle claimed the vacant international belt in his last outing when he stopped John Simpson in the seventh round of their November 2013 clash at the same arena. Brizuela, the former IBF Latino champion, brings an impressive fight record of 25-2-2 to North Yorkshire and the 28 year old will be gunning for Coyle’s title to boost his chances of landing a major title shot.
Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, said “It’s great to put Luke and Tommy in with two tough competitors in their first taste of action this year. Moises has 81 professional rounds in the bank and will provide a stiff examination of where Luke is at. Tommy has the potential to have a great year but Brizuela travels from South America with plans of his own and it’s important for Tommy that he deals with him in style to land some big fights in the ultra-competitive lightweight division.”
Sparks have flown on Twitter between British light welterweight champion Darren Hamilton (14-2) and former professional footballer Curtis Woodhouse (21-6) ahead of their clash for Hamilton’s belt. The champ will be able to claim the prestigious Lord Lonsdale belt for keeps is he can defeat the Driffield man, in what looks set to be an intriguing clash.
The unbeaten pair of Gaving McDonnell and Leigh Wood are in the second British title clash of the night, as they tussle for the vacant super bantamweight belt. Young Hull talents Zak Collins and Joel Haigh continue their pro journeys on the bill, Charlie Payton makes his professional debut while experienced Liverpool super middleweight Tony Dodson appears on the card with an eye on a major bout in Liverpool on March 15 against Commonwealth champion, Rocky Fielding.
