Canelo v Cotto does good PPV numbers

Saul Canelo Alvarez defeated Miguel Cotto last week to become the WBC middleweight champion in what was perceived as one of the mega-fights of the year.

It also now seems it has done well in pay-per-view sales with 900,000 sales being generated. This lead the revenue of sales to be $58 million, as per HBO’s Mark Taffet.

While the figure is good, it does not feature in Canelo’s highest PPV sales, as his fight with Mayweather sold 2.2 million pay-per-views, generating revenue of $150 million.

The Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2 is still the number one pay-per-view buys as it destroyed all-time boxing records.

According to figures by Showtime and HBO, the fight racked up more than 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, generating more than $400 million in revenue – a figure that will be hard to break in the recent future.
