Former WBA Heavyweight champion David Haye reiterated his desire to get back in the ring and has welcomed a fight with Anthony Joshua. Haye, who beat Nikolay Valuev in 2009 to win the WBA strap has not fought since July 2012, where he disposed of fellow Brit Derek Chisora.
Haye’s absence has been due to shoulder injury. As he nears a return from shoulder surgery, Haye is aware of the young Heavyweight fighters that have loomed in his absence, especially one Anthony Joshua. The ‘Hayemaker’ believes Wembley Stadium is the location if both men were to share the squared circle.
“I definitely think an all-British contest will be there for us.
“Whether it happens or not depends on a lot of stuff. I’ve got to get back in the ring and he’s got to keep winning.
“If we fight each other there would be no other location than Wembley. We’re both from London – he’s from north and I’m from south and it would be a massive, massive affair.” Haye told The Sun.
While Haye has not been in the ring for nearly three years, he has been keeping an eye closely on the division. With a new WBC American Champion in the form of Deontay Wilder emerging and the rise of young domestic fighters, Haye knows that there will be options out there should he make his return.
“The Heavyweight division is looking as good as it has for a long time. You got [Wladimir] Klitschko still doing what he does; you’ve got the emergence of the new American heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. WBC Champion, big guy, perfect record, thirty three fights, thirty two knockouts, no losses.
“I was in Vegas when he fought Bermane Stiverne a couple months back and he was the real deal, he’s helped me out in the past with some sparring so I know him very well and I think that has spiced up the division very well.
“On the domestic side of things we got Anthony Joshua doing his thing, Dillan Whyte, some nice young guys coming through who could break through to the world scene in a very short period of time. The heavyweight division is looking very good at the moment. “ Haye told Daily Mail.
