Carl Froch seemingly is interested in a bout with Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
KO King Golovkin comes off a win against Willie Monroe Jr. and once again stopped his opponent within the distance and now it seems Froch wants a piece of the Golovkin ride. Froch has made it known that he wants a big fight before he retires and Golovkin has been looking for such a big bout.
Froch, who has recently taken on a punditry/commentary role with Sky Sports, has publicized he will only box again in a fight that will excite his interest.
Froch told Daily Mail, “If I fight Golovkin I will back him up, take what he’s got and beat him up.”
Golovkin, who has 20 consecutive stoppages and 30 stoppages in his career, while remaining unbeaten in 33, made it known he wants a big fight and called out Saul Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto in his enthused post fight interview after his win against Monroe Jr.
Eddie Hearn, promoter of Carl Froch told Daily Mail that Froch is indeed interested in the bout with the Kazakh KO master and talks are in fruition.
Hearn told Daily Mail, “I’ve now spoken with Carl directly about this and he is interested. I only want him to take it if he’s genuinely motivated because it is a high-risk fight.
‘But it would be massive and we can fill Wembley again. Given Carl’s interest, we have already opened negotiations with Golovkin’s people and they are very keen.”
Abel Sanchez, trainer to Golovkin, told Behind the Gloves earlier in the year that they have always been willing to face Froch. He has stated that they are willing to take in the UK.
“Eddie Hearn is a good friend and Eddie Hearn is a very good friend of Tom’s [Loeffler]. All he has to do is draft the contract, we’re willing to go to England. Draft the contract for September or three months from now, three months from the 16th {March].” Sanchez said.
Sanchez also stated that they are willing to make concessions for the fight to be made and believes a fight between the pair is pay-per-view material.
“I’m sure that Tom will be willing to make a lot of concessions and Golovkin too. That’s a kind of fight that is worthy of a pay-per-view, worthy of the public buying for a lot of money. Carl [Froch], have Eddie [Hearn] send a contract to Tom [Loeffler] and call him, let’s get that fight on.” Sanchez said.
