Tyson Fury believes the IBF wanted the heavyweight title in America which is the reason he claims he was stripped of the title less than two weeks after winning it against Wladimir Klitschko. Fury was angered by the manner the IBF dealt with the situation and is further infuriated that Charles Martin has a year to make a mandatory defend of his title.
Fury was stripped of his title as he failed to face his mandatory challenger in Vyacheslav Glazkov after Wladimir Klitschko activated the rematch clause.
Speaking to Gareth A Davies and Mark Saggers on Talksport, Fury said, “They did take the IBF title away from me and they given it to Charles Martin and now they’re [IBF] saying that Charles Martin doesn’t have to defend the title up until 12 months so pretty disappointing because they gave me about 12 hours, so it was pretty obvious to me that they wanted the title back in America.”
Fury claims he is no longer concerned with the IBF title and is looking forward to his rematch with Wladimir Klitshcko.
“You know what the IBF can do… I’ve already put their belt in the toilet,” Fury said to Sky Sports.
“What gets me is why take it off the linear heavyweight champion. It’s their loss. It’s no longer my concern what they want to do with their belt and who they give it to.
“But the International Boxing Federation want that title back in America and it’s going to stay there for a while.”
While Fury said he could challenge Martin for the title, he believes there will be no demand for the fight. Fury instead spoke of his desire to set up a unification clash with WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder, after his rematch with Klitschko.
