Danny Garcia has opened up to Behind the Gloves on Oscar De La Hoya’s ‘cherry picking’ Instagram post, stating he never once turned down a fight when he was with Golden Boy Promotions. Over a month ago De La Hoya posted a picture of Garcia in the ring, with his opponent replaced by a picture of a cherry.
A ‘cherry picker’ is perceived as someone who takes the easy route, picking his opponents on the probability of winning the fight with ease instead of picking a challenge.
When asked about De La Hoya’s Instagram post, Garcia replied – “You know it’s crazy, I gave Oscar [De La Hoya] some of his best fights. You can ask Robert Diaz, the matchmaker, and Eric Gomez that I never turned down one fight at Golden Boy Promotions.
“I gave Oscar De La Hoya some of the best fights. The Amir Khan fight, the Lucas Matthysse fight when nobody wanted to fight him, so me as a Golden Boy fighter, I faced the best fighters, and you can ask the matchmakers I never turned down one fight at Golden Boy so for him to say that is kind of disrespectful.
“At the end of the day, he gotta do what he gotta do for his company, and if that’s what he has got to do is talk bad about other fighters to try to get people to like his company better then it is what it is,” Garcia said.
