IBF reveal Khan’s rejection of title eliminator against Bradley

The IBF have revealed that Amir Khan turned down the opportunity of a title eliminator against Tim Bradley for the IBF welterweight title. The winner of the eliminator would become the mandatory challenger for the belt, which Kell Brook currently holds. This comes after Khan stated that him or his team did not receive an approach from the IBF.

IBF Championships Chairmen Lindsay Tucker told BoxingScene.com, “Amir Khan’s people turned down the fight. Bradley accepted.” She also said that the title eliminator fight opportunity has now been passed to Birmingham man Frankie Gavin. Gavin has a Tuesday deadline to decide whether he wants to take up the offer.

Prior to this Amir Khan spoke to IFL TV, dismissing any IBF eliminator approach. After ESPN journalist Dan Rafael tweeted that Khan turned down the IBF approach, Khan stated, “Now I can clarify that the IBF have not contacted me or my team for the Bradley fight. I would take that fight in a heartbeat.”

Amir Khan has come to the forefront of media attention over the past couple of weeks about a possible showdown with Kell Brook. Khan has dismissed this fight in the near future, instead looking to hunt down a fight with Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao later on in the year.

Amir Khan is looking to fight on May 30. After naming Chris Algieri as his next opponent, Khan has since retracted his announcement, with a further announcement on his next opponent to come soon.
