Undefeated Keith Thurman has set his sights on three time champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner and believes that it’s the fight the fans want to see.
Keith “One Time” Thurman (21-0 19Kos) passed a difficult test this Saturday in San Diego, sorry, San Antonio , Texas, where he beat down a buoyant Diego Chaves, knocking him down twice before a 10th round KO in an entertaining fight on a card that surpassed expectations. The victory places Thurman directly in line to face the newly crowned WBA champion Adrien Broner who beat Paulie Malignaggi in a split decision win last month.
“It’s a great fight; I get tweets, I get facebooked. Everybody wants to see me and Broner; We’ll have to see what the future holds. He didn’t really have the best performance against Paulie. His speed was there, but his power wasn’t there in the welterweight division… It’s a tremendous fight because he’s a young fighter and I’m a young fighter, he’s athletic and I’m athletic.” Thurman said.
While the thought of this fight being made will get the fans licking their lips, it’s a fight that is unlikely at this given time. Broner didn’t wow anyone with his first fight at 147 this past month and may even drop down to 140 leaving Thurman left to fight for the vacant title. Also if Broner was to defend his new title, the arrow points at Marcos Maidana and Thurman would not be considered yet.
There are also issues with this fight seen as both fighters are signed to Al Haymon, although this may not be a major obstruction as we saw with the Garcia vs. Matthysse fight, it is unlikely the two young fighters will fight, at least not now. It doesn’t make sense for two promising Boxers who have a whole career ahead of them to fight this early in their careers so I believe contrary to Thurman’s views, this fight will not happen.
Although, if the fight was to present itself this early on I believe fight fans will welcome it with open arms.
