Amir Khan has spoken out about a possible return to the ring after last fighting in May against Chris Algieri. He took to his Facebook page to confirm that he is back in training and is looking for a return at the end of March.
“People are asking when my next fight is going to be so I’m training for hopefully end of March, that’s when I want to fight next,” Khan said on Facebook.
While Khan has been linked with a fight with IBF champion Kell Brook in the summer, he has also been made mandatory challenger for the WBC title meaning he will have to face the winner of Danny Garcia vs Robert Guerrero, who fight this Saturday.
Though a summer showdown with Brook would be a enormous event, Khan has had his eyes on a Garcia rematch for years now and is targeting sharing the ring with the Philadelphia born fighter.
“Opponent wise we don’t know any names. We’re looking at a few names at the moment. I’ve got a few options there.
“Danny Garcia, he’s fighting for the WBC title, even though I’m the number one, he got the opportunity to fight for it – him being number two and I think I get my chance to win the title against him and have that rematch which I’ve been looking forward for a long long time so hopefully a Danny Garcia rematch is a fight that can happen this summer.”
With Khan being made mandatory challenger for the winner of Garcia-Guerrero, this could mean that a summer showdown with Brook could be off the cards.
