After an eighth-round TKO defeat at the hands of Gennady Golovkin, former IBF World middleweight champion David Lemieux spent some time in the sun in Miami to clear his head.
However, it was time to get back to business for the 27-year-old, who resumed training earlier this month.
“I just needed to take a little time to think about certain things,” explained Lemieux to TVA Sports. “I am not injured, I will come back stronger.
“I learned many things, what it means to be at this level,” he added. “Golovkin is a very good boxer, but I have a lot of confidence in myself and I am sure in my head, that I can beat him.”
Lemieux denied a recent report from The Ring that claimed the Canadian turned down an opportunity to fight American Curtis Stevens, which was reportedly going to take place on the undercard of the rematch between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal, next January in Montreal.
“I was in Miami on vacation,” Lemieux contends. “I have never refused a fight. Why would I refuse a fight against Stevens if I accepted a fight against Golovkin? It does not make sense.”
As for his next opponent, while an opponent has not yet been decided, Lemieux prefers to keep the information on the down low – for now.
“We have plenty of names in consideration and surprises we want to give to the fans as well,” he explained.
