Looking at Manny Pacquiao’s future options

Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KO’s) is coming off his sixth loss during the mega-fight versus Floyd Mayweather in May of this year. With the new year approaching, questions are being raised on who Pacquiao’s final opponent is going to be.

Following the fight against Mayweather, Pacquiao had to have surgery for a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, which has kept him out of the ring since. Pacquiao is expected to have one last fight before his retirement on April 9th of 2016.

With being the only fighter to have won world titles in eight weight divisions, the boxing world has nothing but respect for the soon-to-be retired fighter. Pacquiao delivers great shows that do not go unheard of. He has taken losses and is not afraid to loose, making him a fan favorite.

Pacquiao is leaving the boxing world and has big plans for his future in the Philippines. He plans to run for senate for the Philippines next year. Even though he is leaving the boxing world behind, Pacquiao will be carrying on his legacy in another world. But as far as his last fight before he moves on with his life after boxing, who will be chosen as his last opponent?

According to Sky Sports, Pacquiao mentioned, “We have Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Terrence Crawford or Timothy Bradley.”

Many fans are not interested in a third bout against Bradley as Pacquiao’s last fight. Crawford is an exciting opponent, and one that will push Pacquiao to his limit. Does he need a fight with this much risk in his latter part of his illustrious career? Pacquiao has proved many wrong in the past and whether he takes this fight will be a testament to him yet would be one of high risk.

Danny Garcia has lost the respect from many fans after being referred to as a “cherry-picker” for not fighting highly ranked opposition. A fight with a Garcia at 147lbs or at catchweight would one that would be intriguing. While Garcia has many question marks, his history has proved that he can mix it up with the best. This is one fight that would get mixed reactions.

Bringing us to Amir Khan, who has developed a big fan base over the years. Khan is coming off five consecutive wins but has not been in the ring since May, with no word on a future opponent. After the disappointment of not being chosen as Mayweather’s last opponent, Khan now has the chance of being Manny Pacquiao’s next and final opponent.

This generation of boxing is coming to an end with Pacquiao’s retirement set for next year, and Pacquiao has great options for his last opponent. Pacquiao is a fighter who wants to give fans what they want and with this being his last fight, it is unlikely for him to disappoint.
