Boxer and analyst Paulie Malignaggi has recently had a run in with Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach, asking questions on why the Filipino fighter had not gone through the process of random drug testing during his destructive run in his years of dominance.
He recently went onto to say that eight-weight world champion was not explosive when he was drug-tested, insinuating that Pacquiao may have taken some sort of performance enhancing drugs throughout his peak years. Malignaggi has previously questioned how Pacquiao moved up eight divisions, eventually conquering on his way up.
From 2008 to 2010 Pacquiao moved up through the divisions from lightweight to welterweight beating top quality opposition such as Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton. He also fought at a catchweight of 150 pounds to fight Antonio Margarito, winning the WBC super Welterweight title.
Now the Brooklyn fighter Malignaggi believes a drug tested Manny Pacquiao is a one-dimensional fighter once drug tested.
“I don’t think there is anything impressive about the guy. I think he is a one-dimensional fighter once you do random drug testing. I think he has been fighting the same way for a long time,” Malignaggi told FightHype.
Malignaggi, who used to train at the Wild Card Boxing Club with Eric Brown, was earlier told this month by Freddie Roach that he would not be allowed to train in the gym further due to his comments on Pacquiao.
Malignaggi, who competes at welterweight like Pacquiao, carried on his stance after telling USA Today Sports earlier this month, “I haven’t trained at Wild Card since 2013, but the random drug-tested Pacquiao isn’t very scary at all. Suddenly, all his flaws become very obvious when he doesn’t have a ridiculous pace he can fight at that masked his countless flaws.”
