After beating British star Ashley Theophane, the controversial Adrien Broner took no time to call out his former ‘big bro’ Floyd Mayweather. Talking to FightHype, Mayweather later responded to the ‘invite’ for a fight with Broner as ‘the biggest joke of the night’.
After stopping Theophane in the ninth round, although controversially after referee Luis Pabon mistook Theophane’s appeal for a low blow as an indication to stop the fight, Broner said in his post-fight interview: “Now, I don’t know how you all look at that, but I don’t like it
“I wasn’t going to do this, but I’m a man that learns [expletive] from physical activity. Me and Floyd, he got to see me. He got to see me.
“I’m a man at the end of the day. I’m a man at the end of the day. I come from the streets, the trenches, man, from the bottom from nothing. I’m talking about water and corn flakes.
“I come from nothing, and I will never let a man disrespect me like that. So he got to see me. I don’t care if we spar or if we fight. Let’s get it on.”
Mayweather spoke to FightHype.com after the fight, Mayweather gave his reaction to him being called out.
“Today is April Fools, so you know, that was the biggest joke of the night actually. I want him to continue to go out there and fight, win and what’s important for Adrien is not just winning, life after boxing, you know that’s what’s important
“I can remember I was young and I didn’t have a Floyd Mayweather to steer me the right way. Don’t be like me Adrien, be better than me.”
Mayweather, now promoter, has been rumoured to make a comeback to the ring, with the likes of Danny Garcia and Broner, although he has waivered away any questions, referring to his seven-figure income he makes from investments as a tool to negate reporters away. He has also stated he is happy being a promoter, for now.
