Barclays in the mix for Mayweather fight
Barclays in the mix for Mayweather fight
A reliable source told Behind The Gloves this week that one of the reasons the Floyd Mayweather fight has yet to be announced is that the Barclays Center in Brooklyn has found themselves in the mix to land the fight.
Apparently, the Barclays Center has produced a worthwhile enough package that the possibility exists to lure Mayweather away from the MGM Grand, where he has fought exclusively since facing Carlos Baldomir at the Mandalay Bay in 2006. Mayweather hasn’t fought outside Las Vegas since a November 2005 bouts against Sharmba Mitchell, which took place in Portland, Oregon.
It would be quite a move if Mayweather decided to take his talents to the East Coast, even for one fight. Of the rumored opponents for Mayweather, neither Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana has a following in New York, though Khan would likely be able to round up more support than his Argentinian counterpart.
