Carson Jones pulls out of Anthony Mundine fight

Australian junior middleweight Anthony Mundine can’t seem to catch a break these days.

Aus-boxing.com is reporting that Mundine’s scheduled opponent Carson Jones has pulled out of their scheduled Jan. 29 fight with the flu from a fight that is less than two weeks away.

Mundine (45-5, 27 knockouts) previously had future Hall of Famer Shane Mosley pull out the week of their fight earlier this year due to the promoter not coming up with the money in time to keep Mosley’s services. The fight was rescheduled for a month later, and in November, Mundine became the first to stop Mosley in his illustrious career. The manner of victory was unsatisfying for the fans, as Mosley’s back gave out on him rather than Mundine doing anything spectacular. Liked by very few in his own homeland, very few felt sympathy for Mundine getting his lame duck win.

The Jan. 29 card in Brisbane has been cancelled due to the late notice of the withdrawal from Jones, though former welterweight titlist and Manny Pacquiao opponent Joshua Clottey is rumored to be the eventual replacement when a new date is agreed to.
