Cruz-Cintron added to Mar. 15 NBC Sports card
A Pennsylvania ten-round grudge match pitting Bethlehem’s Ronald Cruz against Reading’s Kermit Cintron has been added to the NBC Sports card headlined by heavyweights Tomasz Adamek against Vyacheslav Glazkov, promoter Main Events announced via a press release on Thursday.
Cruz (20-2, 15 knockouts) will be fighting in front of his hometown crowd for the sixth consecutive time as he meets former welterweight titlist turned gatekeeper Cintron. The 27-year old Cruz has run off four straight victories since back-to-back losses to Antwone Smith and Ray Narh brought an end to his then unblemished record.
Cintron (34-5-2, 28 KOs) has been relegated to being an opponent in recent years after falling short in major television appearances against the likes of Saul Alvarez, Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, and Carlos Molina in fights dating back to 2009. Cintron picked up a victory in his last fight, beating fringe prospect Jonathan Batista in an ESPN2 televised broadcast last August. A win for Cintron could possibly get him back in the mix in the deep welterweight division as an opponent for a good name.
The headlining bout between Adamek and Glazkov is scheduled for twelve rounds. Both fighters are looking for a big performances coming off a string of fights where each looked lackluster.
Adamek (49-2, 29 KOs) fought just once in 2013, a clear but unimpressive points win over the durable Dominick Guinn on NBC Sports back in August. Prior to, Adamek struggled mightily in getting a controversial split decision over former rival Steve Cunningham in December 2012.
Glazkov (16-0-1, 11 KOs) was lucky to retain his “0″ as he was soundly outworked by Malik Scott last February, a bout that sent him back to the drawing board in scoring two wins over modest opposition.
