Gennady Golovkin acknowledges being avoided, talks about moving up to 168lbs in the future
While he is labeled one of the most avoided fighters on the planet, Gennady Golovkin seems to acknowledge the fact he has not had the fights he has wanted. While being frustrated in the middleweight division, Triple G knows a move to super middleweight may have to take place in the future to get the big fights he wants.
Speaking to IFL TV, Golovkin said “ I know my situation, you know, this is my life. I know it is a difficult business, not just for me but for everybody. I’m ready for everybody.”
With his mind firmly set on his WBA Super world middleweight title defence against Martin Murray on Feb. 21, Golovkin acknowledges that he may have to move up to super middleweight to possibly set up fights with Carl Froch, Andre Ward and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to name a few.
“Right now my focus right now is 160 [pounds division] but in the future of course I want it. Of course, I go to 168.” Golovkin told Kugan Cassius from IFL TV.
While GGG carries on dominating the middleweight division, he may look to pursue the Miguel Cotto fight before moving up a division. While Cotto is in talks to fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Golovkin admits that both men paths may collide in the future. Golovkin told IFL TV with him being the WBC interim champion and Cotto the WBC champion, both men could end up facing each other and that is the fight he is looking forward to. Triple G has called out Cotto previously and will attempt to unify titles before attempting to move up a division.
