Guillermo Rigondeaux Will fight on HBO in December!

Due to the demand by boxing fans across the world we will see Guillermo Rigondeaux make a return to the ring before the 2013-year is up. Rigondeaux is set to make a return this December, possibly on December 7th. The opponent is still yet to be determined but one of the candidates we’re hearing of is Chris Avalos.

When you pull the upset against a big name in such a fashion of how Rigondeaux has, you usually become a huge star and a must watch for the next big fight. But that was not the case for Guillermo Rigondeaux. Rigondeaux’s upset win vs. the crowd favorite, Nonito Donaire, seemed to have hurt him more than help him with HBO. With only 12 wins under his belt, he wasn’t expected to beat one of boxing’s best and now hold two major titles. The fans, much like the media, saw the win as a surprise and it may have thrown HBO off because the star they had been building up had suddenly lost his titles and found themselves standing in foreign territory. Many have compared Rigondeaux defense style to P4P King, Floyd Mayweather, and even going as far as calling Rigondeaux’s fighting style “boring” because he was such a technical fighter.

“Every time I mention him, they throw up,” Arum said of HBO executives when he mentions Guillermo Rigondeaux as a HBO headliner. With much argument outside of the ring by Team Rigondeaux, he will now get his wish to fight in the ring once again to defend his new hardware as the main event. An argument boxing fans also feel they won. Many fans as well as boxers defended Rigondeaux, giving HBO a lot of slack for them choosing to not feature him on HBO again.

With the fundamentally sound brain over brawn fight styles of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Andre Ward, Bernard Hopkins and Guillermo Rigondeaux, these fighters are argued as solid, good if not great fighters but considered boring to watch by many. But one thing we do know is this style is a recipe for wins with no signs of these losing or walking away any time soon. With these four fighters topping boxing’s pound for pound list, maybe this so called boring style is becoming the new trend in boxing.
