Juan Manuel Marquez decisions Mike Alvarado in war at The Forum

Juan Manuel Marquez made it a happy homecoming at The Forum on Saturday night as he earned a twelve round unanimous decision over Mike Alvarado. Marquez is now 13-0 at the venue, which did it’s first boxing match since 1999.

Marquez dominated the fight, nearly putting Alvarado out of the ring in round eight with a wicked counter right cross. Alvarado answered with a knockdown to start round nine, but it was Marquez from there.

Marquez counter punched masterfully but provided enough openings that gave Alvarado a chance to capitalize. Marquez was the far busier fighter, perhaps Alvarado paced himself to finish the fight. Scores were 119-108 and 117-109 twice.

Viktor Postol punctuated what was a lackluster fight until then with Selcuk Aydin by impressively stopping him in the eleventh round with a video game like combination. Postol was always in control as Aydin never really got untracked. Postol caught Aydin with two hooks and then a vicious uppercut that brought an immediate end to the fight.
