Lucas Matthysse: “I fight with anyone” mentioning Guerrero & Khan

Many fans have been left wondering where Lucas Matthysse has been since fighting and losing to reigning champion, Danny Garcia, Sept 14th in Las Vegas, and what’s next for the man known as “The Machine.” The Argentinean native wasted no time once the fight was over to settle in back home with his daughter and close relatives, immediately leaving the U.S. for Argentina the day after the fight. He fought a great fight against Garcia, living up to his name in every way possible. Both proving to have chins of concrete and warriors in the ring.

Matthysse was a guest of Damián Pellecchia from “Campeones en el Ring” (Champions on the ring) Radio Cadena Eco from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

When asked if he’d fight Robert Guerrero or Amir Khan, Matthysse replied, “If I am offered to Robert Guerrero to fight at 147 pounds, I’ll agree, like Keith Thurman. I fight with anyone. I have no problems. Amir Khan is rumored and is a very good fighter. Same I have not confirmed anything yet.”

Matthysse has become a bigger name in the US and is receiving more press attention than he has before. He said, “There was a lot of press in the U.S. following me. Not played against me but I have to get used to it.”

When asked about his thoughts on his own performance against Danny Garcia, Lucas was quick to give props where it was due and made no excuses for his loss.

“I knew Danny Garcia was a bit dirty, but I have no excuses, he won well.” Matthysse continued, “I felt that Garcia ached some shots of me, but he was too fast and then I had to clinch. Though he gave me many cheap shots…I got good at weighing and with all the strength’s. It was just not the result that everyone expected. I was given that and I accepted the defeat.”

One thing that many fans had thoughts on was Matthysse’s corner and his eye swelling. Lucas defended by saying, “My corner (Cuty Barrera and Darío Fernandez) did a very good job, and the issue was that the eye will swell again when I breathed.” He continued, “Inflammation of the eye was a fair hand of Garcia. He grabbed me well, but was not a knockout blow.”

Lucas Matthysse finished with, “I made a good fight, I looked into the first round to the last but the eye juiced me a really bad. Anyway, I’m very satisfied by the work I do.”

Matthysse is expected back in the U.S. soon to discuss business with his advisor, Al Haymon and Promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, to decide what stands next for him. I’d really enjoy a fight against Broner vs. Maidana or even with someone like Ruslan Provodnikov, who is promoted by Banner Promotions and does not have a specific network deal with either HBO or Showtime.
