Peterson, Jean meet in crossroads clash Saturday

On Saturday, Jan. 25, Lamont Peterson will take on Montreal’s Dierry Jean in a card that will be televised on Showtime.

This will be the first time Peterson has fought since his devastating third round KO loss to Lucas Matthysee. Peterson was not himself as he was knocked down several times by vicious blows by Matthysee’s powerful hooks and power punches. Peterson is looking to get back on track, and in his words, “clean out” the 140 pound weight class.  Standing in the way is Dierry Jean.

Jean is a tough opponent who loves to put pressure on fighters and shows good power.  A native of Haiti, Jean (25-0, 17 knockouts) is 31 years old. Jean has knockout punching ability as his last three fights ended in knockouts.  This is a dangerous fight for Peterson.

Lamont Peterson’s trainer, Barry Hunter, told BehindTheGloves.com that the reason why Peterson was not successful his last fight was because Lamont fell into the trap to exchange with Matthysee.  Lamont and Barry had a game plan to box but were unsuccessful as Peterson got frustrated and went toe to toe. That plan backfired.

“I think too often we get caught up and keep going back and remembering the loss and worrying about the loss,” said Hunter, whose job is to help Peterson move forward from the defeat.

Peterson indicated to BehindTheGloves.com that Jean’s pressure would be no problem for him.

Could this possibly be a trap fight for Peterson? “I always treat every fighter as if they were the best fighter in the world, if he wins is because he was the better man,” reaffirmed Peterson.

“Peterson is a boxer with too much guts for the jaw he has,” Dierry Jean countered.

If Peterson was to win, look out for Peterson’s camp to look at Danny Garcia as a possible opponent.

Tune into Showtime on Saturday January 25th at the DC Armory in the US capital to see Dierry Jean take on DC’s own Lamont Peterson. In the co-feature, junior middleweights Jermell Charlo and Gabriel Rosado meet.
