Two Men train for War on Oct 26th: Quillin vs. Rosado
Today Golden Boy Promotions held a conference call for the co-feature to SHOWTIME’s October 26th card headlined by Bernard Hopkins vs. Karo Murat IBF title fight in Atlantic City, NJ; Both the WBO Middleweight Champion, “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin and the challenger “King” Gabriel Rosado, weighed-in on their clash in a few weeks.
They would speak on their focus and motivation heading into this fight.
For Quillin, he achieved a goal last year by becoming a world champion and now has other aspirations. “My dream is to be a unified champ,” said Quillin, who places himself 2nd in the current middleweight rankings behind Sergio Martinez.
Meanwhile for Rosado it is a culmination of a career full of ups and downs. “What I’ve been through has prepared me for October 26,” said Rosado. He continued by saying “I’m willing to go through hell to win that belt.” While coming off a loss to Gennady Golovkin and a controversial split-decision to J’Leon Love, Rosado managed to get a shot at the title. “I think with the fight with GGG they respected the effort,” and as for the Love fight he says, “They saw that I did win that fight.”
Gabriel Rosado also feels that his last two fights shouldn’t be an indication of how he will approach his fight with Quillin saying, “I should have fought with a killer mentality like I am going too for this fight. I’m training for war.”
Both respect one another’s accomplishments going into this fight but not without taking not-so subtle jabs at each other’s resume, which started in an interview where Peter Quillin stated that Rosado “knows how to lose.” Rosado would come back by saying “As far as names, I feel like I have fought better names” while making mention that Quillin defeated an aging Winky Wright. With all of that, Rosado knows he is the underdog heading into the 26th. “I signed the contract; I knew what I was getting myself into. I’m not the favorite.”
Quillin though respects his opponent saying, “I don’t have a problem with him. He’s trying to take my belt, those things I don’t have to take lightly.” Quillin would continue, “He’s a different fighter [than N’Dam and Guerrero]; I got to give him that respect.”
You could hear the competitive spirit in the fighters both in different positions in their career but share a common goal. This fight is setting itself up to be a show stealer and with the attitudes that both these men exude, there’s no doubt that the co-main can most definitely out shine the main event itself.
