Oscar Rivas fails eye exam forcing his fight with Washington to be called off

Unfortunately for Heavyweight Boxer, Gerald Washington, will be out of a fight against Oscar Rivas which was set to take place on the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Kiko Martinez undercard on Feb 27th. Rivas waited last minute to do a mandatory eye exam, which he failed this afternoon forcing the California State Athletic Commission to decline him a license. Oscar has had multiple eye surgeries in the past, leaving one to question why he would wait several days before his scheduled bout to have the exam done.

The fight was scheduled to be a ten-round bout set to open the Showtime televised portion of the card.

Tom Brown, whose TGB Promotions is promoting the card, told ESPN.com:

“I love the heavyweights. This was going to be a good fight and good test for both of these guys. I feel sorry for Gerald Washington. You train so hard, you accept a fight like this and this happens. That’s who I feel for. He was willing to take on an undefeated Olympian.”

Former USC Football player Gerald Washington currently holds a record of 16-0-1 with a knockout ratio of 65%. Washington, who is managed by Al Haymon, has a bright future ahead especially now with the heavyweight scene on the rise with Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Charles Martin all holding World Championship belts.
