Report claims Mayweather took banned IV fluids before May-Pac

While Floyd Mayweather has been an active member of keeping boxing clean, a report has emerged that he received banned intravenous fluids before his May 5th mega showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

SB Nation’s Thomas Hauser reports that Mayweather received an IV vitamin injection before the fight, which was against the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which sets the standards that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) follows.

The report claims during a random unannounced drug test was carried out by USADA, which had been contracted to oversee drug testing for the Mayweather-Pacquiao, the collection agents found evidence of an IV substance.

According to Mayweather’s medical team, these vitamin injections were given to Floyd to treat dehydration. Two mixes were given to the fighter and Hauser’s report claims, ‘The first was a mixture of 250 milliliters of saline and multi-vitamins. The second was a 500-milliliter mixture of saline and Vitamin C. Seven hundred and fifty milliliters equals 25.361 ounces, an amount equal to roughly 16 percent of the blood normally present in an average adult male.’

Although the injections did not contain any banned substance, the IVs are banned by WADA. This is because they can act as a substance that can dilute or mask any banned substances.

The report claims that USADA allowed Mayweather a retroactive therapeutic use exemption to receive IV injections, three weeks after the fight.

The full report from Thomas Hauser can be seen here.
