According to a Russian source, Roy Jones Jr., and Antonio Tarver will fight for the fourth time December 12 in Moscow.
Tarver is leading the trilogy with a record of 2-1 with one brutal knockout in 2004.
On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin granted Jones citizenship as long as the 46-year-old spent a considerable amount of time in the country.
A fight poster released by Vlad Hryunov Promotion depicts Jones posing with the Russian flag while Tarver, also 46, is posing with the American flag.
Tass.ru also revealed that the fight would be for the WBA Super World cruiserweight title.
The title has not been on the line for the past seven years. Former two-division world champion David Haye held the belt from November 2007-March 2008 before he left for the heavyweight division the following November.
Russia’s Denis Lebedev (27-2, 20 KO’s) has held the ‘regular’ title since 2012.
Hryunov issued a statement that was roughly translated from Russian to English.
“All negotiations are completed. For me, this fight began with the story of Roy Jones. I would like to finish the trilogy [with a] fourth fight and win it [for] Roy,” Hryunov said. “On the following Wednesday, [we] scheduled a press conference.”
Tarver received Olympic bronze at the 1996 Olympics and Atlanta and won gold at the World Amateur Championships and the Pan American Games in 1995.
Jones (62-8, 45 KO’s) is widely viewed as one of the best boxers of his generation. After capturing Olympic silver at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, he turned pro the following year.
He is the only boxer in history to win world titles from the middleweight to heavyweight divisions and has even held the German cruiserweight title.
There is a high chance that this fight could be derailed, however.
Tarver (31-6-1, 22 KO’s) tested positive for synthetic testosterone, a banned substance, in a drug test leading up to his draw against Steve Cunningham on Aug. 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Tarver is ranked No. 9 by the WBA and with a positive test, it could lead to a suspension.
