Frank Warren yesterday broke the news that Frank Buglioni’s contract with Warren Promotions will not be renewed. The details were released over Twitter and so far, have not appeared anywhere else apart from the fighter himself ‘retweeting’ the post and thanking Warren for his progress under the promotional banner. This would indicate that the decision was amicable and it’s still a little unclear as to what the motives were behind the split.
The Enfield super middleweight has had a mixed couple of years losing twice, one time to hard hitting Sergey Khomitsky and last time out, challenging Fedor Chudinov for the WBA super middleweight World title after he had strung together five wins and a draw. He had also changed trainers at the end of last year, closing the door on his time with Mark Tibbs in favour of Irish legend Steve Collins. The former World Champion, now building a stable and training fighters along with his brother Pascal.
A move away from the Warren’s does however, represent a much bigger impact on Buglioni’s career. Is this a potential pre cursor to the super middleweight being represented by another big promotional company. Frank Buglioni certainly sells a lot of tickets, and there is a certain well known UK promoter, that has demonstrated a knack of putting popular fighters on the path to big shows and eventually world titles. The ‘Wise Guy’ certainly seems like he would suit that kind of environment and maybe with the right matchmaking, could get his hands on a world title in the not too distant future.
At this moment in time little is known about where Buglioni will go next with his career, he must have options after his all action displays and big fan base so look out for announcements on the future of the popular super middleweight.
